Pure Water Joy will undertake other, important projects, in addition to providing clean water to rural communities.
Once our drilling activities are fully underway, a long-term study will be initiated using data from the serviced villages to determine the impact providing clean water has on the health, physical safety and educational opportunities of each community. Data for the metrics mentioned above as well as water and soil quality data will be taken before wells are installed then every six months after installing a well for the first year and then yearly after that to monitor the effects of providing clean water to the rural villages. This data will be used to gauge Pure Water Joy’s success in carrying out its mission and results will be publicly published on the organization’s website
Roots and Shoots Environmental Clubs
We are deeply concerned about the lack of environmental education and rate of deforestation in the country. Tanzania loses over 300,000 hectares of forest cover annually, much of that to illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming methods, which leaves the land nonarable and decreases habitat for many key animal species whose survival is important to the African ecosystem. As Keneth travels to each village building wells, he will also facilitate environmental education workshops and create pilot Roots and Shoots clubs in select areas. Roots and Shoots was founded by Jane Goodall with the intention working on environmental conservation and humanitarian issues. The local clubs that Keneth will create will tackle environmental issues in their communities, increase awareness of more sustainable lifestyle practices benefitting the environment
Tree Planting Initiatives
We will plant native trees to mitigate the effect of local deforestation and food trees to provide more nutrition to the communities who need it. Pure Water Joy plans to launch a pilot tree planting project with the goal of planting at least 100,000 trees in 10 pilot villages. Keneth is also knowledgeable in proper tree care and plants frequently near his home in Mbeya as well as Nandanga. Keneth will pass along this knowledge to the students leading the Roots and Shoots clubs, and commits to follow-up visits to ensure the health and proper growth of the trees every 50 days.
Entrepreneurial Workshops and Training
We realize that women and girls need to be provided constructive opportunities to fill their time positively once they no longer need to spend many hours collecting water. We will create programs that provide productive opportunities for the residents in each community once a clean water supply has been established in their location. Pure Water Joy will partner with local organizations in Tanzania to offer entrepreneurship trainings and workshops to women and girls in the community
